Soccer Field Size Calculator
Check field dimensions against adult, international, and youth bands.
What it does
Soccer fields float inside wide legal bands instead of fixed sizes: adults play 100 to 130 yards long by 50 to 100 wide, internationals narrow to 110 to 120 by 70 to 80, and youth steps down to 25 by 15 at the smallest 4v4.
The tool above takes length with width and a play level in yards or meters. It returns area, perimeter, and a band verdict. The default 110 by 70 yd adult field is 7,700 sq yd with a 360 yd perimeter, inside the band.
Bands match IFAB Law 1 with US youth development tables beside it: 90 to 120 m touchlines with 45 to 90 m goal lines for adults, and 55 to 65 by 35 to 45 yards for U10 7v7. Full goals stand 7.32 m by 2.44 m everywhere.
One rule rides above every band: the touchline must exceed the goal line, so squares never qualify. Markings follow fixed measures regardless of overall size, with the center circle at 9.15 m and the penalty mark at 11 m.
How to use
- Pick yards or meters.
- Pick adult, international, or youth level.
- Type touchline length first, goal line second.
- Read area first, verdict beside it.
- Keep length longer than width.
- Mark fixed spots: center 9.15 m, penalty 11 m.
Formula
- bands
- Legal length by width ranges per level.
- area
- Playing surface in sq yd or sq m.
- L > W
- Touchline must exceed goal line.
Metric inputs convert first (divide by 0.9144), then run identical yard math with square meters through 0.836127, so both systems agree.
Worked example
Example: 110 by 70 yd adult
Imperial defaults: adult, 110 yd by 70 yd.
- Area: 110 x 70 = 7,700 sq yd.
- Meters: 7,700 x 0.836127 = 6,438 sq m.
- Perimeter: 2 x 180 = 360 yd.
- Band: 110 sits in 100 to 130, 70 in 50 to 100.
- Shape: 110 exceeds 70, legal.
- Tool shows 7,700 sq yd, 360 yd, within adult band.
Reference table
| Level | Length x width | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | 100 to 130 x 50 to 100 yd | 110 x 70 is 7,700 sq yd |
| International | 110 to 120 x 70 to 80 yd | Narrower championship band |
| U11-U12 9v9 | 70 to 80 x 45 to 55 yd | Goal 7 x 21 ft |
| U9-U10 7v7 | 55 to 65 x 35 to 45 yd | 60 x 40 is 2,400 sq yd |
| U6-U8 4v4 | 25 to 35 x 15 to 25 yd | Goal 4 x 6 ft, no keeper |
| Adult min | 100 x 50 yd | 5,000 sq yd |
| Adult max | 130 x 100 yd | 13,000 sq yd |
Limits
- Bands only; drainage and grass excluded.
- Small sided rules vary by league.
- Goals and marks fixed regardless of size.
- Indoor boards need other specs.
Common mistakes
- Squaring the field; length must win.
- Reading meters as yards.
- Adult goals on youth fields.
- Skipping runoff room around lines.
- Mixing international with domestic bands.
